The opposite of Family is Enemy (a Diamante Poem)

poetry

Diamante

A Diamante is a seven-lined contrast poem set up in a diamond shape. The first line begins with a noun/subject, and second line contains two adjectives that describe the beginning noun. The third line contains three words ending in -ing relating to the noun/subject. The fourth line contains two words that describe the noun/subject and two that describe the closing synonym/antonym. If using an antonym for the ending, this is where the shift should occur. In the fifth line are three more -ing words describing the ending antonym/synonym, and the sixth are two more adjectives describing the ending antonym/synonym. The last line ends with the first noun’s antonym or synonym.

To make it a bit simpler, here is a diagram.

Line 1: Noun or subject
Line 2: Two Adjectives describing the first noun/subject
Line 3: Three -ing words describing the first noun/subject
Line 4: Four words: two about the first noun/subject, two about the antonym/synonym
Line 5: Three -ing words about the antonym/synonym
Line 6: Two adjectives describing the antonym/synonym
Line 7: Antonym/synonym for the subject

Stated Song: Carry on Wayward Son

I just finished this week’s stated song. I tried a few little things different and at least I can see the difference. I realized I was not warming up and excepting to act as if I was. I also was just going and doing, forgetting why I was actually recording these videos. They are supposed to be my form of training and working the acting muscle. They are not just to get my name out there. I kept this in my mind before and after working on it. During I focused on what I was doing and had to focus on taking myself out of the equation.

You can not think about what you are doing when you are acting, because how many times in a day do you think to yourself I am doing xyz because of abc? I know when I’m in the moment I’m only thinking about that moment, so when I am acting I need to remember to forget about everything not it that moment or monologue.

One of the things that I’m changing is to put more content in the blog posts for the videos, including the lyrics that I used. So, here is the words I used.

Carry on  Wayward Son By: Kansas

Once I rose above the noise and confusion
Just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion
I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man

Though my mind could think I still was a mad man
I hear the voices when I’m dreamin’, I can hear them say

Carry on, my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Masquerading as a man with a reason
My charade is the event of the season
And if I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don’t know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion

Tossed about I’m like a ship on the ocean
I set a course for winds of fortune, but I hear the voices say

Carry on, my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

Carry on, you will always remember
Carry on, nothing equals the splendor
Now your life’s no longer empty
Surely heaven waits for you

Carry on, my wayward son
For there’ll be peace when you are done
Lay your weary head to rest
Don’t you cry no more

I also want to make sure everyone has all the information on this song, because every song I do I do because I love the song and am a fan of the artist behind the song. Carry On My Wayward Son was written by Kansas in 1976 and recorded on LeftOverture under  Sony Music Entertainment . Kansas’ website is http://www.kansasband.com/index.php . There is no official music video for this song but there is a video of them playing live at http://youtu.be/D6bQ4EAduBg.

I hope you enjoyed all this information and if you have any request, suggestions, or feedback please let me know.

Cinquain Poems

poetryCinquain

Cinquain is a short, usually unrhymed poem consisting of twenty-two syllables distributed as 2, 4, 6, 8, 2, in five lines. It was developed by the Imagist poet, Adelaide Crapsey. Another form, sometimes used by school teachers to teach grammar, is as follows:

Line 1: Noun
Line 2: Description of Noun
Line 3: Action
Line 4: Feeling or Effect
Line 5: Synonym of the initial noun

I will be doing both, so there will be two poems in this post.

Stars and Mind (Ballad Poem)

poetryBallad

A short narrative poem with stanzas of two or four lines and usually a refrain. The story of a ballad can originate from a wide range of subject matter but most frequently deals with folk-lore or popular legends. They are written in straight-forward verse, seldom with detail, but always with graphic simplicity and force. Most ballads are suitable for singing and, while sometimes varied in practice, are generally written in ballad meter, i.e., alternating lines of iambic tetrameter and iambic trimeter, with the last words of the second and fourth lines rhyming.

She sat and wondered
looking up at the stars
resting her weary mind
far from the sound of cars

The wind whispered her name
and brought magic to the night
the stars twinkled into shapes
and the stars seemed to burn bright

She sat and wondered
looking up at the stars
resting her weary mind
far from the sound of cars

In this night she was with friends
this night that seemed like a metaphor
She watched it dance by
and wondered if it was actually a lore

She was detached from the night
lost in her mind
Where the stars burn bright
and the heavens unwind.

Cheese (Acrostic Poem)

Cheese (Acrostic Poem)

To continue my write every form of poetry challenge I will be doing an Acrostic.

Acrostic Poetry

Acrostic Poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same words as in the title.

Cheese

Celebrate with me

Happiness is raining down

Ecstasy will befall you when you

Eat this wonderful masterpiece

Soon happiness will be known

Everyone will hopefully eat this wonderful cheese.

This quick poem brought to you by a quote I found. “Poets have been mysteriously silent on the subject of cheese.” – G. K. Chesterton. I hope you enjoyed my cheesy poem on cheese.

Stated Song: Jesus, Friend Of Sinners.

This week’s monologue was taken from Casting Crown’s song Jesus, Friend Of Sinners. This song was written by Casting Crowns in 2011 and recorded on Come To The Well under Provident Label Group . The link to the music video is youtube.com  and their website is castingcrowns.com.

I love the song and have heard it a bunch of times, so figured it would be a good song to do. I hope you enjoy it.

I also tried something a little different for the intro and closing, so feedback will be great appreciated.

In The Diner(Short Story)

In The Diner Short story

“I am not from around here.” She told the stout woman who approached.

“Few people are, darling.” The waitress, Cindy, told her with a smile.

“I can imagine,” Laura, the woman who looked around, stated as she sat on her bar stool.

“How’s that?” Cindy asked, not needing to rush her since she was the only customer without a meal in the diner.

“I just drove up 9w and it was beautiful.” As Laura spoke, she again looked around as if trying to find someone or something she lost.

Cindy took the pause to mean that there was something she should ask. “It is beautiful. I suppose many people move to town to enjoy the redwood forest.”

“Yes, I suppose, but it was when I got off route 9w. It was another world. I come from a farm in Utah and there is so much space there. All the roads are long and most are wide. Here, however, two streets never meet at a right angle and they are hardly streets at all. Instead, you have tiny little roads like, ‘courts,’ terraces,’ ‘ways.’”

“There is a ‘landing’ or two.” Cindy chuckled.

Laura ignored Cindy’s little joke and continued, “And lining these street-like things are rows on rows of tiny houses that only the lawn ornaments distinguish between the different properties.”

“I have heard of new people calling up a taxis just to have them lead them out of neighborhoods,” Cindy said light-heartedly, trying to make her customer feel at ease. After a moment Cindy asked, “What will make you feel better right now? I can get you a coffee or maybe a pie?”

“Coffee and pie sounds good. Do you have apple pie?” Laura answered, forcing a smile on her face.

“Yes, darling, I will get you a piece of warm apple pie and you can tell me more about what brought you here.”

Cindy left, took care of a few other customers, and came back with a coffee and pie for Laura. As Cindy slid the plate and mug towards the mid-twenty-year-old she asked, “So, tell me the story of brought you to Suburbia.”

“That is simple. My husband got a job in the city, but we didn’t want to live in a city. We had a great big farm we lived on in Utah. My brothers took care of horses and my family had some cattle. If this job wasn’t something he felt he needed to do, I would have stayed on the farm.”

“Is that who you are looking for?”

“What?” Laura asked, shocked that Cindy noticed her nerves.

“You keep looking around.”

“Yes, we were supposed to meet 20 minutes ago, but I was running late. I don’t know why he would be this late.”

Just then, as if Laura’s husband heard his story being told, he walked in the door and straight to his wife. With a kiss on the cheek, her nerves went away and they could enjoy the apple pie together, before ordering their meal.

New Day (poem)

A few months ago I tried to challenge myself with writing every type of poetry. I think I wrote about 5 poems for that challenge. I just looked back and did not see them labeled as specific poems and it was over 6 months ago. That being said I decided to start this challenge again. This time I will tell you the type and the definition of it. I will be using ShadowPoetry.com  as my poetic dictionary and list.

The first poem is:

Abecedarian Poem
Each line builds with a successive letter in the alphabet. Also referred to as an alphabet poem

A new day starts

Bright is the sun

Cascading light into my room

Do you hear the birds

Echoing in the distance?

Far away are the sounds

Gathering of the morning life

Happy little far away birds

I hear them as the sun cascades light

Just as I wake in the morning.

Kindly they sing me awake

Lovingly the chirp in the distance

Morning has come and I am at peace

Night is no more

Opening my eyes I can see the daylight

Peace washes over me with the bright light of morning.

Quieting the distant birds in my ears

Raising my hope for the new day

Staying in bed

Tangled in blankets

Unwilling to move from my peaceful state.

Very hopeful that my peace will stay

Waiting for reality to set in

X-ing out the dreams in my head

Youth seems to leave me

Zeal for the morning drifts away as the birds fly.

Wow X was hard to do and I wish I woke up like that.

Stated Song: You Suck by Murmurs

Oh what a difference a day can make. Yesterday I was over exhausted and worn out. Although I wrote that I would post a video today, I was not sure if I would be able to. I thought that I would just sleep or turn my brain off in between services, since I was serving during both of them. You see I try to be as active as I can in my church, because I love the people and love helping. When I serve, though, I usually serve both services. One is at 10 o’clock in the morning the other is at 6. Between setting up and tearing down who ever is serving usually leaves one at 12 and gets to the other at 4. I love spending so much time with my church people, I just did not think I would have enough energy or time to get to my video.

All that being said; I am happy to say I did find time to get to record my video. I only did it three or four times, before deciding that it was good enough. I am not happy with how the intro or the ending went, so I still have room to grow.

With the week I had I am super happy that I found time to still complete every goal that I really worked on. Maybe next week I will even figure out time for editing my novel. We shall see.

Here is the finish recording of You suck by Murmurs.
