Bird or fish? Contemplative Poetry From Garden Of Poems

Staring at the valleys
the mountains
the depths, the sea
I thought I could fly
but held my wings back.
If I jump will I take flight
soaring above my cares
flying away from my fears?
Or will I fall
into the dark deep sea
drowning in a new world
I do not know.

Will I become
a fish in the great unknown?
Am I a bird or a fish?
Can you tell me, please
or is it something for me to find out,
something for me to learn,
for me to decide?

July 2025: A Review Of My Wonderful Art Life

July 2025 art life update

I have been busy with my art business lately, which is why I’m able to give you a July 2025 art life update. The focus has mostly been ramping up sharing my art work and poetry readings, but I am starting to create more things. It seems like I’m always working on finding a better balance between creating and sharing. Doing batch work has been helpful. Another thing that has been helpful is having a set schedule when I can work on the business stuff and another time for the creativity. I’m not just smushing everything together.

Writings

July brought some fun poetry reading videos that I posted on my writing Instagram. I am also starting to share excerpts from Garden of Poems on this site.

Along with sharing my older writings, I am working on some new stuff. I am restarting editing my next poetry book. Also, I am working on a few new narratives. The narratives are still in the brainstorming and figuring out characters stages. You should be hearing more about them as I am starting to share regular updates.

Painting

In the coming months you will be seeing more blog posts about my paintings. I have been sharing a lot on my painting Instagram account.

Here are a few examples of the paintings I’ve been doing and posting.

Digital Art

I’m starting to do more digital art again. However, I’ve been posting mostly things I’ve done in the past. This is because my digital art has it’s new own Instagram account. This way it doesn’t get lost among the paintings.

Photography

Finally, I’m starting to do more photography and share my photos with the world. It is more of a hobby level rather than something I’m focused on making an income or community with. My photography does have it’s own page now and it’s own Instagram account. You should take a look at both.

Let me know (via comments) if there is other information you want to stay up to date with and I’ll put it in my next update. Also, let me know (via comments) if you want this in a newsletter format instead. For now that’s all the July 2025 art life updates that I have for you.

The Winged Hearts Acrylic Painting

Winged Hearts Acrylic Painting

Title: Winged Hearts

Size: 10 inches by 8 inches

Medium: Acrylic paint on stretched canvas

Year completed: 2020

Write Up: Let your heart fly free above the sky and sea. Well, you can’t see the sea in this painting, but that’s what I thinking of when I painted Winged Hearts, another acrylic painting.

I love painting and creating clouds in my artwork lately. There is something soothing and fun about adding the different colors and layers of cloud. I watch them grow from flat blobs of paint to fluffy colorful clouds with each layer I paint with them. Also, I of course love to paint hearts. If you’ve been around my visual art for any period of time you should know that. With the clouds and hearts, this was such a natural and fun painting for me to do. Plus the colors are the ones I’ve been gravitating to lately. This is a very Tiff painting and I love it. I hope you love it too.

Thank you for reading and taking a look at my Winged Hearts acrylic painting. Please let me know what you think with a comment below.

My Magical Garden Painting

My Magical Garden Painting

Title: Magical Garden

Size: 8 inches by 10 inches

Medium: Acrylic paint on stretched canvas

Year completed: 2020

Write Up: My Magical Garden painting is a quick and fun painting I did with more emotion than thought. I started it with just the background and slowly added elements to it with little mind power. My goal was to simply have fun and move the paint around until it was a completed piece. First I added more textured grass then some pink flower-like plants. Next came the other flowers. I added the arch after that but it didn’t seem complete. That is when the trees popped up.

I’m really happy with this colorful painting. It reminds me of a magical garden from a different realm. As if you could walk through the archway and into a land of fantasy. There is also peace and calm to the simple plants, as though they are waiting for you to finish creating them with your desires and imagination.

I hope you enjoy my Magical Garden painting as much as I do. If you do please let me know with a comment below.

Love Boldly My Acrylic Painting

Title: Love Boldly

Size: 11 inches by 14 inches

Medium: Acrylic paint on stretched canvas

Year completed: 2020

Write Up: Not to be too dramatic, but this painting sort of changed my life. I had the idea to do something like this. It was a cool exclamation mark with a heart instead of a dot. As I painted it I realized what it meant. It meant “Love Boldly.” What does that look like though and why should I paint it? Well, I needed to stop being afraid of other people’s opinions. If they misinterpret my love and caring we could either work through that or I could explain myself. This ‘love boldly’ became my 2020 motto and I even got this symbol tattooed on my forearm. It opened my eyes to how I should treat everyone. This included the stranger on the street, my best friends, and myself. Everyone should be loved boldly and without fear.

Now noticing this I see myself smiling and saying hi to strangers more. I also notice better self-talk and an even more positive attitude. It is partly me stepping outside of myself and also me having enough confidence to say, “people can think I’m strange I’m going to love everyone as boldly as I can today.”

This whole shift in being started with this painting so don’t just live boldly but love boldly also.

My Heart Given Painting

My Heart Given Painting

I some how missed my Heart Given painting when I was going through ones to share. It is a slightly older painting. I finished it in 2019, but I still love it. Plus, I have to share all my paintings. Why paint if I’m not going to share.

Write Up

Heart Given is a rather spiritual painting of mine. It is a woman giving her bruised and battered heart up and in return 2 doves are bringing her a bright, fresh, new one. This painting shows how when we give God our hearts he gives us a new heart that is more beautiful than the heart we gave up.

Stand Out Blue Heart Acrylic Painting

Stand Out Blue Heart Acrylic Painting

Title: Stand Out Blue Heart

Size: 9 inches by 12 inches

Medium: Acrylic paint on stretched canvas

Year completed: 2020

Write Up: This painting calls you to stand out how you are. Those around you may all be one way, but that doesn’t mean you have to be. It is a simple message for a simple painting, but it is an important one nonetheless.

The Thrill of Holding Your New Book: A Poem

“The Thrill Of Holding You New Book” is a short poem I wrote when I published Garden Of Poems.

The Thrill of Holding Your New Book
Excitement brews and bubbles.
Oh what a thrill
to hold your struggles in your hand
to embrace your heart printed on the page.

A book cannot smile
so I double my grin.
My normal smile for my joy
then double for him.
My new born boook
I get to hold and embrace.
Oh what a thrill.

Write Up:

My “Plastic Rose” painting was so much fun to paint. It is different from most of my other paintings because it is not just acrylic. Yes, the muted pink border is acrylic paint. However, I also used mod-podge and watercolors.

The background is watercolors with mod-podge in between the layers. I wanted to see how layers of watercolor would look. Would it give the painting more depth? Could I make it look different from my other backgrounds?

The Rose is then done in acrylic paint on top of the watercolors. I then sealed it with a final layer of mod-podge. This gave it a plastic texture, which is why the name is “Plastic Rose.”

This painting showed me that I enjoy experimenting and something beautiful can come from exploration.
