My “Plastic Rose” painting was so much fun to paint. It is different from most of my other paintings because it is not just acrylic. Yes, the muted pink border is acrylic paint. However, I also used mod-podge and watercolors.

The background is watercolors with mod-podge in between the layers. I wanted to see how layers of watercolor would look. Would it give the painting more depth? Could I make it look different from my other backgrounds?

The Rose is then done in acrylic paint on top of the watercolors. I then sealed it with a final layer of mod-podge. This gave it a plastic texture, which is why the name is “Plastic Rose.”

This painting showed me that I enjoy experimenting and something beautiful can come from exploration.

Write Up:

This is an older painting of mine that I painted in 2017. I was feeling lonely, so I went to my paints. You’ll notice that this painting has 5 blue flowers, 5 bees, and then 1 large red rose. The rose doesn’t have her bee though. It seemed like everyone was paired off except for me. That doesn’t mean that I won’t bloom and that doesn’t mean that the painting should be sad. It is a simple fact, which is why the background is so bright and cheerful.

This is a fun and fast painting I did one day. I wanted to try out a new style as an experiment to see how it would work. It turned out cute and delightful painting of a purple cartoon flower. I enjoy the black border and thick outlines on the heart flower and hills. Although it is more of a cartoon style it still has my style in it, which I of course also like.

among the garden visual poem

Among The Garden (A Poem)

Do not stay too long
among the flowers of the field.
Do not linger at the garden’s rose.
My heart waits for you,
but not there.

I am not a rose,
not a flower.
Although pretty and fragrant
their beauty wilts and withers too soon.
Vanity won’t nourish your soul
or calm your nerves.
Charm is a Venus flytrap
alluring but harmful

So do not stay among the garden
while your love awaits your arrival.

A Poem About A Painting

A Poem about a painting

The Vine of Life
grows and splits.
The only thing that is clear
is the vine travels many ways,
flowers will bloom in their own time
and when they do
bees will come;
loving the flowers,
but not too soon.
Off to the side
A Rose does bloom
her bee is not yet seen.

Split Flower(Art Write-Up)

split flower

Title:Split Flower
Size: 16 x 20 inches
Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas
Summary: It started simply with the butterfly trying to save the caterpillar who was not ready to fly yet. Through the painting process the plant with two different flowers started, which represent the two different feelings that were felt while trying to drag the caterpillar away.

Write-Up: This is one of the first paintings I created with a purpose and a clear message behind it. I had something to say that I didn’t want to put into exact words. I was not ready for that yet in this situation.

I chose the yellow background as a way to hide what I thought was dark. This painting is about an internal struggle and I did not want to be honest about that fact. However, when the background was just yellow it felt like too much of a lie. I added shades of splattered red to give a messier feeling; this is about a struggle even if I wanted to hide some of that fact.

In this painting I split the canvas in half diagonally. The lower half has the darker flower, with a darker explosion of feelings behind it. It is also underlined with an unnatural dark green fire that is almost translucent.

The top right half is lighter. The flower has more white in it and the feelings behind the flower are light pinks, yellows, and white. There is also cleansing and peaceful lavender water dripping down.

The main focus is the butterfly who is trying to rescue a caterpillar. The caterpillar itself is basic with only stripes, but the butterfly’s wings are complex with different layers and sections.

This panting represents my struggles to accept that the person who I wanted to love was not ready or not interested in the change I had gone through. I was different and happy with becoming a Christian and felt as though I was given a new life. I was a new being and wanted him to be one too. I wanted to rescue him from what he was, instead of letting him find his own way.
