Look For Me (A Poem)

Do not look for me
in the ashes of who I once was.
I will not be found there.
I am in the memories you hold dear
and the jokes we once shared.
I am in the love you have
and the breeze that moves among the trees.
So, do not look for me
in the ashes of who I once was.
Note About The Poem

Sometimes I write poetry for fun or to uplift others. Sometimes I write poems to explain something that is going on internally. Most poems that I share are positive or ends with hope. Look For Me is a different kind of poem.

I wrote Look For Me in August 2019, while I was in Massachusetts helping my family prepare for my brother’s memorial service. It may not be happy, but I do hope it comforts you if you are grieving.

Robin Williams' Monody poem

poetry

Monody

A monody is a poem in which one person laments another’s death, as in Tennyson’s Break, Break, Break, or Wordsworth’s She Dwelt Among the Untrodden Ways. (Also see Dirge, Elegy, Epitaph)

I have put this one off for a while. Honestly, I’ve put all the structure poems off for a few weeks, now. With Robin Williams’ passing I thought I would write one to honor him. He was one of my favorite actors and I know I am not alone.

Laughter and Smiles
Fill the room
when your voice fills the air
Now only recorded
now only memories.
There are so many memories
of stand up
of comedy
and of moments meant to move.
With a voice meant to change
with every character
with every scene.

You were a light
you were comedy
you were a hug in a movie form
a smile when I needed one.
You touch my heart
and lightened my soul.

Now a legend
Now I hope you find your bliss.
Lay in rest
be at peace
and know you are missed.

My tombstone

poetry

I did not want to think about writing any one else’s tombstone, because if I want to write about you it’s because I love you. That being said I’m not sure if how twisted it is to write an Epitaph for myself, but I kept it light and something I actually wouldn’t mind on my tombstone.

Epitaph

An epitaph is a brief poem inscribed on a tombstone praising a deceased person, usually with rhyming lines.

With life measured in love and not in time
she always shared her love and enjoyed a rhyme
now the time has come for her to venture on
she will be missed not a little but a ton.
